With a population of approximately 350 million in the United States, national surveys consistently name the same issues which cause them to have anxiety and uneasiness as it relates to current affairs. First, the cost of living, specifically housing costs, continues to be a concern regardless of economic status with rising costs of 93% over the past ten years. Families are affected the most by these numbers as shelter for a family is much more difficult than a single individual. Second, healthcare costs remain a topic of intense discussion and strategies to prevent non-chronic disease as well as manage chronic disease are aggressively being pursued. The past five decades have shown healthcare costs go from $353 to $15,474. This concern is magnified in children since many adult diseases could have prevented with better primary care as children with 30% of the U.S. pediatric population suffering from a chronic disease. Finally, unemployment still rises to the level of concern for the nation and college graduates are finding difficulty in transitioning their skills into employability. To this end, the SCP PURPOSE Foundation will address the issues concerning the nation the most by focusing on securing resources for homeless families, supporting pediatric research for chronic diseases, and providing training for post-secondary and college students to solidify opportunities to share their gifts with the world.
